A Stronger Foundation for a Stronger, Fitter You!

A lot of people talk about "core" training these days but what is actually meant by this? When we talk about "core", we really mean core stability, which is the ability to maintain correct posture. This is vital and underpins everything we do as humans. Core stability gives our body an anchor for our limbs to function from, allowing weight transfer. When people think about core they think abs but it is much more than this. The core comprises of the spine, the pelvic girdle, the shoulder girdle and several huge muscle groups within the body. A strong, healthy and stable core will help you with every activity you do in life, not just in training.

Cardio vascular fitness is in my view vital to supporting a long, healthy and happy life. It also helps you to be able to train your body more effectively and function well in every day life. I am a keen runner and cyclist and I have a number of ways to make cardio more fun for you. I can offer specific training for runners or cyclists who wish to improve generally or train for a particular event. I have a deep interest in running technique  which I have used many times to help people understand causes of injury and get back on the road to running fitness.

Form Follows Function

I am a great believer in functional fitness. My whole approach to training is to help people develop skills and movement patterns that will help them in their every day lives, not just in the gym. Key to this philosophy is flexibility. Many of us lose flexibility and range of motion due to sitting at a desk all day or leading a mainly sedentary life. In order to build proper strength your body needs to be able to move joints through a good range of motion to enable you to train muscles more effectively. Can't touch your toes any more? Think you are too old to do squats? I can show you how to do things you thought you would never be able to do. My philosophy is we don't stop moving because we get old, we get old because we stop moving. We can reverse this process to a great extent. Find your inner power with me!
